TikTok Ban: ByteDance told Forgo Stake in TikTok to Clinch USA Deal

TikTok ban: After US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he had decided to ban the famous short video app, two people familiar with the matter said on Saturday, China’s ByteDance agreed to completely divest TikTok’s US operations in an attempt to save a deal with the White House. ByteDance had previously tried to hold a minority stake in TikTok’s US company, which had been rejected by the White House.

ByteDance had previously tried to hold a minority interest in
TikTok’s U.S. company which had been denied by the White House.

ByteDance will be exiting absolutely under the current proposed deal and Microsoft will take over TikTok in the United States, the sources said. Some U.S. based ByteDance investors may get the opportunity to take minority stakes in the company, the sources added.

The White House has not replied to a request for comment on whether Trump will support the concession offered by ByteDance. ByteDance had not replied to a request for comment in Beijing.

Under the new proposal from ByteDance, Microsoft would be responsible for securing all data of US users, the sources said. The plan allows a US company other than Microsoft to take over TikTok in the US, the sources added. However, Microsoft has not replied to a request for comment.

Realme Buds 3 Set to debut in India: Realme Buds 3 is expected to launch as early as this month, the company’s India CEO Madhav Sheth revealed on YouTube in the latest episode of their AskMadhav video session. The company’s latest wired earbuds will replace the Realme Buds which was released last year.

The executive also indicated plans to add Realme laptops to the business-a move close to Huawei ‘s Honor and Xiaomi sub-brand. Realme also aims to broaden its presence in the wearables industry and bring back earbuds that are backed by a high-end smartwatch and active noise reduction (ANC), Sheth said.

Sheth provided some information about Realme’s strategy for the Indian market over a 12-minute video session. The executive said the Realme Buds 3 would debut “in a different style” & be “original” in its show. However, it is uncertain whether the latest wired earbuds which were released in August last year at a price tag of Rs. 599 will be available at an affordable price as their predecessor

In addition to the Realme Buds 3, Sheth claimed in the video that Realme is “considering the possibility” of releasing its laptops in India. Realme’s rivels Honor & Xiaomi are already into the laptop market, with the former hosting the launch of its first laptop model called MagicBook 15 just earlier this week. Sheth was also saying about the company’s latest 5G phones without providing any specific information.
